Journeys in life are often like mazes -
it's not always immediately apparent if you're making the right choices or not.



Make decisions based on the norm, not the exception



Sometimes the magic happens in the way you least expected



I choose my words very  carefully
and try to express my thoughts clearly and completely
It's up to you to properly misinterpret them  : )



True power is not the ability to control others
But the ability to remove the control that others have on us
Influence is not necessary
When inspiration drives us



When the new puppy, the new car, the plastic surgery, the college degree...
the new house, the jewelry, the new job, the two week vacation...
weren't what you really needed -
they only serve to distract you, restrain you, block you
from figuring out and attaining what you really did need.



Don't let yesterday or tomorrow screw up today - (I need to work on this one)



The more people I meet, the less weird I think I am.



How often have you found yourself repeatedly looking in the refridgerator...
only to find nothing
And probably never realizing that you weren't really ever hungry for food at all.



The most valuable things in my life
Can't be bought or sold -
A twisted moss covered branch I found
A half second when the curves of a girl's body achieve some temporary magical perfection
When a friend laughs more than they have in a long time at some small thing I've said
An expanse of open field that seems to go on forever, but at the same time is connecting with me
When I make a difference
And when I remember those who inspired, shaped and influenced me



If you take shit, people will give it to you
If you don't give a shit, people will find you more intriguing


I speak to God all the time - he's probably tired of hearing from me



Scott's Diet:
1) Eat a little less than you normally would.
1a) Ensure the food you eat is truly rich in nutrition.
2) Work out a little more than you normally would.
3) Drink a little more water than you usually would.
4) Most importantly: Be Patient and Stick to it.



To get ahead...
It's not what you know.
It's not who you know.
More and more I am beginning to believe that it is these things plus a group of
other variables so large that the outcome approaches pure randomness.

The only things that really seem to have a slightly greater effect on your movement through life
Are your level of self respect, your drive and your level of expectation
from whatever system(s) you are a part of.

The reasons many of us attribute to our successes or failures...
are merely illusions.



In college I read of an experiment where a bird was fed at random intervals.
After some time the bird had developed many strange quirks.
This was due to the fact that it attributed the release of food to whatever
action it was performing (no matter how strange) just prior to the release of food.

How often are we guided by such incorrect correlations?



Someone once asked me on a particular topic that I can't remember at the moment :
Do you honestly think that you could be right
and everyone else in the world could be wrong?
I answered honestly, Yes.



I always knew who I was - I never needed to find myself
But in my quest for someone to share my life with
I lost myself
A girl in a nightclub in 1995 asked me what I liked to do
I couldn't answer - all I did was what I was doing just then - Searching
I realized that in my quest to find someone, I had lost everything that I once had to share with them
I've been re-finding myself ever since



We are living in the future - realize the comforts and enjoy them.



The fact that my way differs from yours in no way implies
that you are right and I am wrong.



Why is it that people who feel that they are always right
Are so often so very wrong about me.



He doesn't realize what he has in her
She doesn't realize what she'd mean to me



Many people succumb to those with false confidence
Those who's confidence lies in the fact that they have not yet been tested
True confidence is the kind you still have after you fail
The kind where you get up after taking a beating like you've never before seen
with the knowledge that you will still ultimately succeed



Courage is not running fearless into an impossible situation
It is enduring necessary dangers despite your fear



I often feel like an iceburg - being judged only for what's above the water



The grass is always greener on the other side
Because grass always looks green from a distance
You don't always see the brown spots until you get closer, but they're there
Look for the grass that's the type of green where you don't mind the brown spots



What box?



I've finally figured women out
Does it help at all? - no
Because what I found out about them - is that when you figure them out...
They change the rules  : )



If I like myself best when I'm with her...
If I only look at her when we're together...
If I enjoy her voice, her spirit, her energy...
If I don't mind when she's not so nice...
If she's the first person I want to tell something to...
Then I'll marry her
If she'll have me



I'm not sure how much longer I can keep smiling -
I've been running close to empty for a long time.



Retired people know when the next teller becomes available -
long before anyone else in the bank.



Maybe if speed limits were increased above 100 mph,
people would actually pay attention when they drive



Nice guys don't finish last - it's just a matter of distinguishing between nice and weak.



Those with loud voices who are quick to anger often end up winning
arguements despite their complete lack of understanding of the topic.



Life is often like sweeping
If you're not doing it right you can exert a lot of energy and do very little
If you're doing it right, the wind you create will continue to make a difference
even after you have stopped moving the broom

Cleaning is theraputic - as you can actually see the difference you've just made



Many of us use fantasy to escape from our reality
Movies, video and computer games, books
Many use drugs to distort and / or attempt to enhance their lives
But trees and children grow all by themselves
When I flick a switch, the room lights up
Thunderstorms, rainbows, earthquakes, pirates, mountain ranges
We live in a world full of magic
Sometimes we just take the true fantasy...   for granted



Money is wasted on the rich
Free time is wasted on the uninspired
Beauty is wasted on the uninterested
Don't waste



Success to me is the ability to do what you want when you want and with who you want
Many people today who see themselves as successful are merely mimicking the successful lives of people from the past
There is much to be said about modeling aspects of your life after those you admire and respect
But then there's also the possibility of being nothing but a cheap copy, a duplicate, redundant



I was sitting on the floor of my bedroom 8/22/04
watching parts of Pay It Forward as I sorted through some fossils
I was feeling sad as I sometimes do on Sunday nights.
A tiny facet in a small cluster of crystals suddenly caught some light
and sparkled at me.
For some reason I felt like it was telling me there was hope



I want to be different just like everybody else.


If you disagree with any of my deeper observations and thoughts, please understand that I accept all ideas as equal and that this section is really not to be taken too seriously.   Believe what you want - it's one of the only real freedoms we have

Sometimes good things come in the guise of bad
And sometmes vice versa
And then the Universe may pass no judgement whatsoever
Things just are as they are
Left for us to interpret
or misinterpret
or change our perception of



Every so often, it all becomes clear
I feel connected and I understand what's really going on
...or at least I know that what seems real, is not
And then I get absorbed in the game again



Everything you know and have ever experienced
All the rules and laws and concepts
Are just your mind's interpretation of information that it receives
The people you know, the things you see and hear, the things you believe to be true
Are just models your mind has created to make some sense of  what else exists other than yourself
Never doubt the existance of any possibility
Never believe anything that may do you harm one hundred percent
Use fear only as a protective or planning mechanism, don't let it cripple you or close you mind
Because when all is said and done, we can't really prove anything at all



Someone sits at a table eating breakfast
They reach for their orange juice and knock their watch
from where it was sitting waiting to be worn
It drops to the floor and upon impact the case separates slightly
and lets a small amount of light in to the inner mechanism
One photon reaches one electron on one of the small metal gears inside
That electron is excited to jump to a higher orbit for a moment and then return
releasing another photon
That second photon travels a few nanometers and is absorbed by another electron

Now what if that second photon was our universe
and it's short trip
the whole of time from the big bang to the end

Makes a discussion on the possibility of extraterrestrial life seem quite insignificant
